Chris Seagar

Dip Urb Val, FNZIV, FPINZ 

Chris Seagar is a Director of Seagar & Partners Limited, Registered Valuers and Property Advisors based in Auckland. He holds the qualifications of Diploma in Urban Valuation from Auckland University dated 5 May 1972 and has been registered as a Valuer under the Valuers Act 1948 since 9 October 1974. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Property Institute and New Zealand Institute of Valuers. Chris was elected President of the New Zealand Property Institute in July 2003 and held this position until July 2005. He is currently serving on the PINZ Board as its Immediate Past President.

The firm which he founded in 1981 currently employs 24 valuers in two offices throughout Auckland. His experience over the past 35 years in private practice has encompassed a wide range of valuation and property advisory work for the private and banking sectors of the property industry. Chris has managed valuations of the NZ Railcorp portfolio, Waikato Area Health Board assets, Viaduct Harbour, the Central Railway Yard precinct in central Auckland, the valuation of Waikato Tainui’s interests in the land settlement with the Crown, and more recently the commercial assets and land at Auckland International Airport since 1999.

He has been a Director of the New Zealand Property Institute since its establishment in 1999, and its President between 2003 and 2005. Prior to that, Chris served as a Councillor on the New Zealand Institute of Valuers.

In the area of land valuations more particularly, he has undertaken valuations of large portfolios of freehold and leasehold land within and outside greater Auckland. Specifically in respect of land claim issues, he acted as Valuer Consultant to The Tainui Maori Trust Board in their historic Crown Land Claim between 1996 and 1999. More recently, he has advised Ngati Whatua in Auckland on their land claim on the Auckland isthmus and has previously been a Ngai Tahu appointee as Arbitrator in their land claim with the Crown in 1999.
